I'm finally done with the kitchen and couldn't be happier with the turnout. Sometimes I have to pinch myself that this is really my kitchen, but Prescott and I have worked very hard to be able to create something like this, so it is even that much more appreciated :) I included some before and after pics as well as some other fun house updates that we have been working on.
A lot of the items added, I got for my birthday or for Christmas, like Lawson's new playroom rug (thanks to all the gift cards to Pottery Barn from all sets of parents), his playroom light fixture (thanks to the PB gift card from my grandparents), the garden planter box from my mom and Craig for my birthday and then the trees from Prescott for my birthday. I think it is safe to say that Pottery Barn or Lowes/Home Depot gift cards will always be my favorite gifts :)
I am now getting into gardening, which kind of makes me feel old in a sense, but also really excited! I have never really had a hobby before, so this is a good thing for me to be able to focus on when I'm not doing things for the bakery or Lawson. We planted a variety of herbs, aloe, squash, zucchini, strawberries, tomatoes and rhubarb. Lawson and I have been watering it every day and today discovered little green strawberries! We are both very excited :)
Then for my birthday, the three of us went to the nursery and picked out our trees for the house. We chose two fruit trees (a four in one apple tree that produces 4 different types of apples during every season and a nectarine tree) for the back, which both are already producing fruit! Then for the front we wanted a classic and timeless look so we went with a southern magnolia tree and a California pepper tree or what I call a Caliwillow because it looks just like a weeping willow. On the side yard we planted some nice privacy hedges and then some ivy in the front to grow up the house which we are hoping won't be a terrible decision down the road. Love the look but worried about it taking over!
On a nonagricultural note, Lawson is talking up a storm. It is craziness. He is counting 1-10, singing parts of his ABC's, knows all of his colors/shapes/animals and loves to put together phrases/sentences now. Some of his favorites are "No, I'm fine. I'm great." Thank you." and "You're Welcome." "Share." "Be nice." "Baby Happy. Mommy happy too. Daddy happy too." "Plane trip." He particularly likes to use that phrase as he gets out his baby suitcase and heads to the garage as if he is ready to get in the car and go on a real plane trip. I guess that's to be expected when he has grown up traveling so much with mommy and daddy. Crazy to think that he just turned two and has already been to North Carolina, Virginia, Colorado, Mexico, Canada and New York! That little guy is going to be a World traveler, I tell you.
All in all, it has been a good month. Always trying to find the balance between bakery and home life, but hoping to get the bakery running smoother, so that I can really focus on home and family :) A girl can dream, right!
